แบ่งเป็น 2 แบบ

1. Local / patchy
2. Generalized hair fall

แบบ diffuse hair loss / generalized hair fall ต้องแยกระหว่าง TE ซึ่งเกิดค่อนข้าง acute และ กลุ่มเรื้อรัง 

CTE [ chronic telogen effluvium] กับ FPHL [Female pattern hair loss]

ประวัติ 

TE = Abrupt, rapid, generalized shedding of normal club hairs, 2-3 months after a triggering event like parturition, high fever, major surgery, etc

FPHL = gradual diffuse hair loss with thinning of central scalp/widening of central parting line/frontotemporal recession

CTE = Excessive, alarming diffuse shedding coming from a normal looking head with plenty of hairs and without an obvious cause is the hallmark of CTE

Pathology

Histologic evidence

Lab test  * CBC, urine, Serum Ferritin and Iron study  Thyroid Hormones iron deficiency and thyroid hormone disorders are the two common conditions often associated with diffuse hair loss, and most of the time, there are no apparent clinical features to suggest them

Hair wash test  [https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26711442/] wash the hair in 5 consecutive days and count the number of dropped hair [3 cm or longer]
